The Congressional Cup began on Tuesday, April 23, and runs until Saturday.
Mayor Robert Garcia launched this year’s “granddaddy” of sailboat match racing on Tuesday, April 19, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the rededication of Long Beach’s Congressional Cup Stadium.
The stadium, in front of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier — at 39th Place and E. Ocean Boulevard — is the city’s ocean race course that hosts numerous regattas, including the Ficker Cup, and the high school and collegiate Rose Bowl Regatta.
The biggest, of course, is the Congressional Cup, the 57th annual iteration of which began on Tuesday. The regatta runs until Saturday.
