Community Outreach

During Congressional Cup week, which is open to the public for viewing, you can see the Catalina 37s in the hands of the best sailors and skippers in the world. In the months following Congressional Cup, you’ll see the “37s” being skippered and crewed by young people and older “youth” from all over Long Beach and beyond.

In promoting youth sailing, the Foundation has introduced area teenagers, who may never have been near a boat, to the excitement of competitive sailing as they crew on Wednesday evening races throughout the summer, participate in the Marcedes Lewis Boys & Girls Club Regatta, participate in our middle school STEM program, or have a one-day introduction through Panthers at Sea or LULAC Day.

Empowering Growth

None of these activities would be possible without our youth and community outreach partners, the Long Beach Yacht Club and its members, the US Sailing Center, and Boys & Girls Clubs. These partners and dozens of sailor volunteers are also critical to our other community outreach activities throughout the year. The Heroes Regatta for local policemen and firefighters, the Patriot Regatta for active duty military members, and Sea Gals, a women's sailing program that introduces women to sailing and helps them develop as sailors.
