COMMUNITY OUTREACH
During Congressional Cup you can see the Catalina 37s in the hand of the best sailor and skippers in the world. In the months following, you are able to see the “37s” being skippered and crewed by both young people, and older “youth” from all over Long Beach and points beyond.
The Sailing Foundation has been able to introduce area teens, who may never have been near a boat or seen the ocean, to the excitement of sailing as they crew on Wednesday evening races throughout the summer or participate in our middle school STEM program.
Our local first responders and active-duty military are hosted annually at our Heroes Regatta and Patriot Regatta in recognition of all the sacrifices they have made during the year.
Sea Gals women’s sailing program introduces women to sailing and helps them develop as sailors in a supportive coaching environment.
None of these activities would be possible without our outreach partners, the Long Beach Yacht Club, its members and the US Sailing Center. These partners and dozens of volunteer sailors are critical to our outreach efforts.

INNER CITY KIDS
Wet Wednesday Program
The Sailing Foundation and the US Sailing Center are partners in this program designed to get teens from local organization out on the water each Wednesday in Long Beach Yacht Club’s summer long Wet Wednesday Series.
The Sailing Foundation provides the boat, loyal donors underwrite the post-sailing burger bash, and the US Sailing Center provides classroom instruction and onboard coaches. This program in its 18th year.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
STEM Program
The goal of the Sailing Foundation’s Middle School STEM program is to foster an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math through activities related to sailing.
Through a collaboration among the Sailing Foundation, Long Beach Yacht Club, and the Buena Park School District, middle school students receive hands-on, integrated learning opportunities that utilize sailing as a platform.
BPSD teachers are certified to teach the US Sailing Reach curriculum, and the sailing coaches are experienced volunteer sailors from the two organizations. Field trips, onsite sailing-based activities, and underwater robotics are the cornerstones of this popular program. This program is held on 6 Saturdays during the school year and has been active since 2017.

HEROES REGATTA
Sailing for Those Who Serve Us All.
The inaugural event was held in 2014. Racing under the scrutiny and advice of skilled sailor/coaches, teams from Fire, Police, and Lifeguards vie for bragging rights and getting their name on the perpetual trophy.
A recent participant best describes the experience, “it was awesome, from training to the teamwork… Our coaches had us focused and stayed on point the whole time.”
PATRIOT REGATTA
A day of camaraderie, competition, and connection.
The event consists of a day of fun and entertainment. The regatta consists of a series of four short races, with each team comprising experienced sailing coaches and service personnel representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard.
Families are invited to view the event racing and join in the post-racing burger bash and festivities.
